Every grade issued by Hapkido Australia traces to the recognised governing bodies of Korean martial arts. Our registrations, certifications and teaching authorisations are held with the organisations below, the same bodies that set the standard in the Republic of Korea. Hapkido Australia operates under Choson Martial Arts (CMA). Our national standard is anchored to Korean-sanctioned rank, not self-appointed authority.
The Korea KiDo Association, the Daehan Kido Hwe, was formed in March 1960 and formally established under the Korean Ministry of Education as non-profit organisation No. 24 on 2 September 1963. It is the oldest and original official body for the promotion of authentic Korean martial arts, and of Hapkido in particular. Hapkido founder Choi Yong-Sul served as its first Chairman. Rank issued under the KiDo carries direct, verifiable Korean sanction, the benchmark against which legitimacy in Hapkido is measured.
Hapkido Australia's principal holds a Master Title issued by the Korea Kido Hae, with dan rank registered through the KiDo lineage.
Tukkong MooSool ("special force military techniques") was created by order of the Korean President in 1978 as a combat system superior to sport-oriented arts, developed through the 606th Special Missions Battalion by masters drawn from Hapkido and other Korean disciplines. It remains the official close-quarter combat method of the Republic of Korea’s Special Forces, and the KWTA is recognised as the official trainer for Korea’s 707th Special Mission Battalion ("White Tigers") and Blue House presidential protection officers. Tukkong MooSool is a combative system, not a sport, engineered for rapid interdiction and control.
Hapkido Australia's principal holds 5th Dan Tukkong MooSool and Teaching Authorisation issued by the Korea World Tukkong Association.
HoSinSul translates as "self-defence techniques", applied self-defence with Korean roots. The International HoSinSul Federation is an associate body within the Korea KiDo Association, established to set international benchmark standards for HoSinSul dan rank and instructor qualification. IHF dan and instructor certification is sanctioned jointly with the KiDo, executed globally under exclusive agreement through Grand Master LTC Julian S. Lim, with the agreement signed at the Daehan Kido Hwe headquarters in Seoul. IHF programs launched worldwide from Australia in 2018.
Hapkido Australia's principal holds 5th Dan HoSinSul under the International HoSinSul Federation.
KOMA SEAPAC was formed in 1988 to correctly promote genuine Korean martial arts across the South East Asia-Pacific region, specifically Hapkido SungMooKwan and TaeKwonDo ChungDoKwan. SungMooKwan is the original school of Grand Master Ji Han-Jae, founder of the original Korea Hapkido Association; its head, Grand Master LTC Dr Julian S. Lim (9th Dan, KiDo), is recognised as Chong Kwan Jang of SungMooKwan by the Korea Hapkido Federation. KOMA SEAPAC certification is backed one-for-one by the corresponding Korean governing bodies, the KidoHwe, KukMuWon and KWTA, making it one of the few organisations outside Korea whose papers carry direct Korean accreditation.
Hapkido Australia's principal holds 5th Dan Hapkido in the SungMooKwan lineage, certified through KOMA SEAPAC with one-for-one Korean backing, and trains under Grand Master Julian S. Lim with repeated Master Class training in the Republic of Korea.
These registrations are held in the name of Hapkido Australia's principal and are verifiable against the issuing bodies. Members grading under Hapkido Australia inherit this documented line, a grade that means the same in Australia as it does in Seoul.
Rank is responsibility, not reward.
